With over 70 years’ experience of dedicated service, Davis & Shirtliff has consistently provided quality service in water and solar energy products.
Established in 1946, D&S is proud to be making Ksh8billion annually.
“Throughout the years, our focus has been on water. In the last 10 to 15 years, we have diversified the product portfolio to energy. Given our strong presence with 50 branches in seven countries, we have been supplying the local market with high-quality water equipment sourced from some of the leading suppliers across the globe,” notes Ephraim Wainaina, D&S’s Managing Director.
In Uganda, D&S has five sites in Gulu, Mbarara, Nakasero, Shauri Yako, and Kampala Jinja Road branch the main office.
In response to ever increasing demand, D&S set up mobile technical teams on standby to respond to customer requests for help at a short notice. This, Wainaina says, is a customer focused initiative aimed at serving clients better: “We are mobile. We do have field engineers who are equipped with tools and knowledge to attend to customer requests in any part of the country. Customers are now comfortable dealing with us because they know distance is not an issue. We will deliver and fix in time regardless of location in Uganda.”
Headquartered in Kenya, D&S business activities are primarily focused on five principal product sectors: water pumps, water treatment, swimming pools, solar and power products i.e. generators and engines.
D&S core business functions
D&S offers comprehensive and competitive product range with national availability and unrivalled technical and service support.
This is a specialised market for a given niche. This is for the high end segment. These include institutions, hotels, and individuals. The market is still small.
Solar is a stand-alone system mainly for domestic use. D&S installs the solar system together with an inverter. There is an increasing demand especially in Kampala and surrounding areas given that solar is green and relatively cheaper in the long run. Some countries have invested a lot in the solar systems to demise that solar is for the rural areas.
Ugandan water is generally good compared to other countries. In many parts of the country, there is less need for water purification. D&S has filters for cleaning drinking water for hotels, hospitals, schools.
On the commercial end, there is a lot of water purification in the big industries.
D&S specialises in pumps. In the brewing process, you have more than 500 pumps transferring fluids. We have equipment to supply during any water generation process be it drilling boreholes or construction of sewage dams.
Power products i.e. generators and engines.
